Handicrafts are devices or works of art that are made completely by hand or by the use of relatively simple tools. Such goods are usually made in the traditional way of manufacturing goods. Therefore, the knowledge of the art of craft is usually passed down from one generation to another. The items made using these traditional methods of manufacturing are usually produced in smaller quantities and they often represent the culture or religious beliefs of the community that makes them. The goods are also handmade from natural materials that are found in the environment of the particular economy.

Lord Sheshnag: The King of Serpent Race

Posted by Art Of Legend India [dot] Com On 4:38 AM
Lord Sheshnag is an important part of Hindu mythology. He is called the king of serpent race and ruler of the infernal regions called Patal (nadir). He is the divine serpent with a thousand heads. According to Hindu mythology, the world rests on the hoods of Lord Sheshnaga, and when he shakes his head, there are earthquakes. He is worshipped in Hindu mythology for maintaining the balance of the earth on his hood and preventing it from sinking into the Patal.

Lord Vishnu reclines on the coils of Lord Sheshnag in the Ksheersagar and Goddess Lakshmi serves him. Sheshnag is always with them and guards them. Lord Sheshnag is also known as Ananta (Eternal and Endless) since he is immortal and is not affected by death even during the destruction of the whole Universe.

In the Puranas, Sheshanag is said to hold all the planets of the universe on his hoods. He is generally depicted with a massive form that floats coiled in space, or on the universal ocean, to form the bed on which lord Vishnu sleeps. Sheshnag also incarnated himself with lord Vishnu. He incarnated himself as Lakshmana and BalaRama. Lakshmana was younger brother of Rama, whereas BalaRama was elder brother of Krishna. All paintings are courtesy of Art of Legend India.
